(Image from Jill Browning)The applique shapes were hand-cut from felt and I machine-sewed a row of straight stitches around the edges to attach them to the shorts. I just pinned them in place and didn’t both with using Heat’n’Bond due to the natural grippiness of the felt (although it did go a bit wonky in places).
I sewed the bias tape onto the back pieces. Then I overlapped and pinned the back piece (without bias tape) under the front piece (with bias tape), and sewed through the layers of bias tape, front and back pieces to create the side seams in one lot of sewing, following around the rest of the leg front piece. (I should have taken some photos of this, but I wasn’t sure it was going to work!)
